Free SEO training 2020

Category: SEO | Last updated: March 2020

Have you ever wondered about search engine optimisation (SEO) and how to improve your site's rankings in search engine results? Here are some free online courses and resources to help you understand what SEO is about and how you can apply it to your site.

Way back in 2019 when the word "Coronavirus" was unknown to most of us going about our daily lives, it would have been unimaginable and inconceivable that the world would effectively come to a standstill. In under 3 months. And for the foreseeable future.

We had only seen this in block-buster disaster movies.

Many of us are finding ourselves in state-imposed lock-down, isolated in our homes and probably with time on our hands, pondering our future career and/or business.

But let's not dwell on the negatives of the situation.

Why not take this "slack" time to do some things differently and perhaps learn some new skills that should benefit your career or business in the longer term.

Let me ask you a couple of questions.

Are you a website owner?

Have you ever wondered about search engine optimisation (SEO) and how to improve your site's rankings in search engine results?

If you answered YES to both these questions, then here are some on-line courses that are currently free, provided by some of the SEO industry giants.

Moz Academy - free training for all

The folks at Moz are making their SEO training courses free right through to 31st May 2020.

All you need do is sign up for a free account and then click through to the Moz Academy site to pick your courses, apply their promo code and off you go.

The courses cover a variety of topics and cater for beginner, novice and intermediate levels of expertise.

You don't need to purchase a subscription to the Moz tools to get the most of these courses, either. The SEO concepts and theories described in the courses are independent of tools.

If you just want to get to grips with SEO by reading about it, why not try Moz's Beginners Guide To SEO. This has nine chapters of easy-to read material covering keyword research, on-page and technical SEO, link building as well as a glossary of SEO terms.

Yoast Academy

Yoast is famous for its WordPress plugin Yoast SEO. But it also offers on-line SEO training courses, some of which are free.

They announced recently that their All-around SEO training course is free for now.

The course covers both on-site and off-site optimisation. And, in Yoast's own words, you will learn how to outsmart your competition by going beyond SEO!

Just join the Yoast SEO academy as a free member to gain access to the All-around SEO training course.

Backlinko - how to learn SEO in 2020 (in record time)

Brian Dean's site Backlinko is a goldmine of SEO-related topics that are easy to navigate, read and apply. His articles are a joy to read.

This particular article is a collection of hand-picked resources to help you learn about SEO from the right sources and in record time.

Keep safe, keep washing, keep your distance
but never stop learning!
